Use solar as it’s generated. Surplus can charge a battery.
How much does it cost to add a battery?

Will a battery work with my inverter?
Look for the make and model on your handover paperwork or monitoring app. Ask the installer which batteries your model supports. If it cannot connect to the proposed battery, ask for separate prices for an AC-coupled battery with its own inverter and for replacing the existing inverter.
What could change my quote?
Ask for the battery’s usable capacity in kWh, charge and discharge power in kW, and any extra electrical work, cabling or backup equipment. Compare the total fitted price and warranty for the same scope.
How much storage do I need?
Compare what you export during the day with what you buy after sunset. For example, if you typically export 5 kWh but only use 2 kWh after sunset, pricing a smaller battery alongside a 5 kWh option can help you decide whether the extra capacity is worth paying for. Winter generation, storage losses and your export tariff affect the result.
